[DeTomaso] German looking for Pantera

Actually I am on the "keep it stock" side-- my car is dead stock except for 17" wheels that you can buy decent tires for, an upgraded radiator and fans, electronic ignition, and Spicer halfshafts. The latter two are not noticeable and the former can be switched back to Campys at will.
.
I present the Chevy-powered car only as an example of condition. I don't think the Chevy engine or white-faced gauges add value. But the fact that it can be enjoyed from day one and does not most likely need a mechanical restoration certainly makes it worth considerably more than the WA car.

It is sometimes hard to see things from a different perspective than your
wn. If a true restoration to original condition is what the buyer has his
eart set on, the silver car is nearly worthless to them. So much has been
hanged and discarded, it would cost a fortune to try to restore it. The
QUA car, on the other hand, might be a very good candidate as long as it
sn't rotten with rust. It has much (not all) of the little original pieces
hat most Panteras now lack. I know that's not your perspective, but there
re those of us who think a true original has great value (more Europeans
hink that way than Americans, I suspect). A Cevy powered Pantera is
robably saleable to a very small percentage of the potential Pantera buyers
arket, so may not be easy to dump, regardless of how a few of us may feel
bout it. Until a pristine original Pantera has great value among Pantera
wners groups, the rest of them will always be relatively unwanted (and
alled kit cars by many)

As I see it, the market value of a car is how much someone will pay for it,
ot how much the seller is asking for.
If the seller of the silver car had to lower his price it means it was not
orth what he had previously been asking. If it sells at the current price,
hen that is its market value.
There is clearly more than $10K in value difference between these two cars.
ersonally I wouldn't want a big block Chevy powered car, but it does
stablish a rough price for condition comparison point.

o let's all hope the POS goes for top dollar, then nicer examples will be
orth more. That's how it starts. Pantera owners do this all of the time
nd thats why comparable cars with the same number of survivors outpace our
ar's dollar values. I think we should all just add 15k to all Panteras
n principle alone. Michael

Michael,
I'm not sure what you mean
These are both Panteras so I'm not deriding them.
I'm just saying that a beautiful, running, driving car being sold by a
nown Pantera dealer is worth WAY more than a "not driven in years, may not
tart" project car being sold by a "general" dealer who doesn't even know
eather from vinyl (the ad says the car has its original leather interior).

We are our own worst enemy and this is why a crappy 308 can sell for more
han a Pantera. Why deride our cars? If he can get that, then how much

ou or I get? Michael Shortt.

udging from the cars I see advertised in the POCA magazine there is no way
his

Not started or driven in years??? Forget it unless someone has checked out
he

uten tag, Bernd
've personally reviewed this car, located in a rather eclectic shop in
rnation, WA, a little town about 30 miles NE of Seattle, WA, on the US
st coast. Couldn't get much further from Deutschland.
he car presents quite clean. There does not appear to have been any body
mage, and what rust is visible appears to be largely on the surface. It
s been repainted in the original and very rare Aqua green, but, oddly,
th the rear deck painted black. Said to have sat for many years, the
int is in very good condition. The original early interior is in
cellent condition, with the exception of the steering wheel center, and
e trim inside and out is good as well. The engine bay is fairly clean,
t totally original with the undercoating, hoses and wires, and looking
ke it hasn't been cared for for a while.
was not able to allowed to start the car to see how it ran (it supposedly
t in a barn not moving for many years before they found it), so I cannot
test to mechanical condition of either the engine or ZF transmission. The
lever seemed to move smoothly enough in the gate. This inspection was in
ne of this year, and recent news of those who have stopped to see the car
that they still have not tried to start it. This could be confirmed by
ntacting the seller directly.
f there are no mechanical issues, this would be a very nice car to show or
ive once attention was paid to all the usual things that dry out over
me, and a freshening of the fluids, brakes and cooling system.
he shop is called Vintage Motors, on line at www.giocars.com, and can be
ached by telephone at 425-333-5600. The owner's name is Jim Giordano.
ve spoken to him a couple of times, and he seems like a pretty good
rson.
believe other have replied, including Chuck Melton, who has a link to a
mber of photos which you may not have seen.
lease contact me directly if you wish.

have been offered a 1971 Pantera from a company in England.
ter some research I found the car being offered by a U.S. based vintage
r dealer.
he car is said to be in very good shape (of course!) having a total
ileage
only 20,700 miles.
e color is Green Aqua (#V306 ) and they claim that the car had only one
ner from new.

o you know this car? I am very thankful for any message related to the
ar!
have no idea if it is accident free and I got no eMail reply so far
swering my questions.
have learned that it can be extremely helpful to contact a vintage car
ub to find out about details and history of cars being offered by dealers.
am very ambitious to find a good Pantera for quite a while now, the offers
re in Germany are either of poor quality or far too expensive.
f you have any information, please send me an eMail to: rathsberg at
eb.deor
can call you if you let me know your phone number.
hank you very much indeed and best regards from Germany!
