Subject: [DeTomaso] Great Ebay news from SEMA

Hi guys,

While at the SEMA show yesterday, I came across a big Ebay booth. I introduced
myself to somebody in the booth by wrapping my fingers around his throat.

Well, not really, but figuratively anyway....

I explained that a year ago, if I searched for "De Tomaso Pantera" I got 200
hits, with 15 cars and the rest being Pantera parts. Now, I get 2000 hits, with
15 cars, 185 parts, and 1800 spam ads for generic seat covers and headlight
bulbs and cooling tanks.

The guy knew exactly what I was talking about--he called these "Ebay spam
auctions". They have taken a very dim view of this, and have spent a lot of
money to roll out new software to combat these scumbags. He said that they are
going to use something like facial recognition software, and if they find
multiple ads with the same image, they will delete all but one of them. If they
find multiple ads with the same ad text (or at least multiple shared keywords),
they'll delete all but one of them. The vendor will get a stern warning, once,
and then if they repeat their actions, they'll be barred from E-bay.

He said that the new software is supposed to roll out in the next few weeks, and
promised that these spam ads would be a thing of the past in a few weeks.

Fingers crossed!

Mike
