Or it could be argued that you prove my point.
If the oils have been "improved" in such a way that they are more slippery than the GL5's of 1973, which is entirely likely, then they are LESS well suited for this application.

I still say go with the NS oil.

Uh...what?  

GL5 is a very specific standard which is unchanged; it consists of a set of highly standardized tests that must result in specific minimum values.  Your statement is like saying that a 1973 inch might be longer or shorter than a 2010 inch!

Now, most oils today state that they exceed the GL5 standard (SAE J2360 is a much more rigid standard, established initially by the US military, and one that uses GL5 as its starting point, then adds to it with various performance benchmark tests; most oils today meet this higher standard), so while it may be true that most 2010 oils are better than 1973 oils, the minimum standard that is established by GL5 is still the same standard.
