[DeTomaso] ZF Gear Lube Question

3.5 liters according to the ZF manual. I assume that's for a new or rebuilt
transmission. Expect to fill with at least 3 liters for a drained ZF is my
guess.

What is the amount of GL4 oil in a ZF?
-Only drained = ?
-Rebuilt = ?

This is true-- oil that is designed for LSD diffs is "too slippery" and will
cause the synchros to not grab adequately.

Redline 75W90 NS gear oil I believe is the name of what you should use. If
you get too much LSD clutch "chatter" (sounds like a moaning noise) you can
add SMALL amounts of LSD additive until it goes away.

Personally I would rather have my LSD clutches wear than my synchros.

Oils formulated for LSDs tend to counteract the function of the synchro
echanism. Given the IMO limited life of the synchros in the ZF I'd use what
loyd recommends.

am getting close to putting engine and ZF back into # 3400. I dug up the
eft over lube from my last ZF oil change, which is Pennzoil Gearplus -- SAE
0W-90 GL5. It states on bottle--Formulated for Limited Slip Differentials.
ut recently (some where) I read that Lloyd B. had said to use GL4 not GL5.
o any of you see a problem with my past choice?

hanks,
