[DeTomaso] Galled stainless fasteners

Dear Dave,

I was optimistic through the early phases of the attempted repair on
Tim's car. I was optimistic even though a *very* experienced
machinist-mechanic proclaimed, "They'll never get it off. It's stainless
steel." When every attempt ended in frustration and even having the
culprit fully exposed on the work bench didn't help, I finally appreciated
the old mechanic's opinion. That's all I know. I did find the comments
about the metallurgy of galled stainless fasteners being different very
interesting. You will have to let us know the end of your story!

             Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

Say Charles,
Aren't you the perpetual optimist?
What happened?
