[DeTomaso] Reduce Weight or Stiffen Chassis?

Actually the piece of sheet metal will not be completely flat.  It will have a little bow in it to resemble the "B" post etc.

  If they are eliminated, they at least need to be replaced with *something*.  Just putting a flat piece of sheetmetal there would look awful IMHO.
