[DeTomaso] What's the easy way to pull the cam sprocket?

Thanks for all the suggestions.  Two screw drivers didn't bidge it, but the intake is off, and a mild tapping from the valley worked great.

That's a very good description. The comment about the crank gear is good
too.

Dear Ken,

The technique I learned from Tom Monroe's book is to use two
screwdrivers of the appropriate size  (the biggest that will fit and still
let you work them).    Place them behind the recalcitrant sprocket at
diametrically opposite positions.   Then proceed to quickly and alternately
lift one and then the other applying pressure to the backside of the
sprocket or gear tooth edge.  The alternating screwdriver pressure should
not be hard or long, but rather quick alternating little taps or leverages
as you try to use that reciprocating (?) motion to wiggle the sprocket off.
I hope that makes sense.

Hi Chuck,

It's on pretty tight and I worry about snapping off a tooth?  I may have
a prybar with a scooped (right word) end I can get behind it?  Maybe that
and tap lightly with a small hammer?

I tried one screw driver with light force, maybe 2 would help.

thanks,

Ken

Dear Ken,

So the cam sprocket is on the cam.  Is the chain and crank sprocket
also installed?

IIRC,  half the time the cam sprocket would come off with some
fiddling with fingers and/or gentle prodding with a pair of large
screwdriver behind the gear sequentially levered up to wiggle it off.  The
other half of the time, it required a more vigorous two screwdriver
technique.   I've had mine off and on more than once and, as far as I know,
I haven't damaged the gear.   I hope this makes sense.

                    Warmest regards,  Chuck Engles

It's a near new double row chain gear set so I don't want to damage the
gear.

Thanks,
