Sorry, I got caught in a 1965 Chrysler moment. I meant 3,500 rpms...
Chris
Well I wouldn't be surprised if it ran 85 lbs at 35,000 rpms: what you got
in that thing, a turbine?
Mike

Subject: [DeTomaso] Oil pressure help needed
I've inquired about my oil pressure before, and some suggested since my
motor is new, a bit higher than normal could be expected.
It's been over a thousand miles on it now, though, and it still seems pretty
high. It was suggested I check with the experts (read: you all) to see what
the general consensus was.
The stock gauge reads 68 and Idle, and 70 (all the way to the right) under
hard accelleration. The mechanical gauge I installed a while ago shows
about 60 at idle and 65 to 70 at normal cruising speed on the freeway. When
sitting idle, however, when I rev the engine the mechanical gauge goes to 85
at about 35000 rpms.
In checking the engine build sheet, it shows a M84AHV Melling oil pump. I
think the HV means high-volume, which, apparently, may not be a good thing.
How big of a problem is this? Am I going to be happily driving to Reno next
month, only to explode into a pillar of fire?
Thanks,
Chris
