[DeTomaso] What's the easy way to pull the cam sprocket?

I believe you can also tap the cam timing gear from the lifter galley -
through that hole that has a lot of casting flash on it. My guess is the
intake is not off the engine, though.

I've always gotten them off with my fingers, rocking the gear back and
forth. I've never had to pry it off.

Ken, if the cam is out, a tap on each side side of the gear with a brass or
rawhide hammer should start it moving. If its still in the engine, two pry
bars are your only choice. Some sprockets are tighter than others! But
they're pretty tough- light taps and prying won't bend them.
Which timing set did you use? Some sprockets are steel, others are cast
iron, and if steel, the cam thrust plate should also be steel. Stock thrust
plates are cast iron, compatible with stock cast iron sprockets. Ford sells
steel thrust plates, and also Summit Racing & Jegs. Good luck- J Deryke
