[DeTomaso] MSD Box failure? ???????

I know a man who used to work on a professional race crew.
They were sponsored by Mobil 1.
In the garage they poured out the M1 into barrels and refilled the bottles with the oil they really used in the engine, so people could see "M1" going into the engine. The real M1 they got for free to use in their road cars.

It is possible that what is in the box on NASCAR cars is not even made by MSD.

The race teams get their parts free (and they not off the shelf items from
ummit). And they only have to last 500 miles. The race teams put the
roduct decals on the car and get sponsor money. The bigger the decal, the
ore sponsor money. Depending on how they finish, they can additionally win
ontingency money.

You are assuming the NASCAR boys use the same product sold to the public.

It seems like the NASCAR guys would use a better product if it was out
here. The price would not be an issue unless it was really high. I'm not
ure what the tradeoffs are, but I assume they are pretty sure that two
oxes will not both fail. Ken--- On Sun, 5/9/10, Jim Gray <grayjim at att.net>

SD Box failure? ???????Dear Tony, I have full MSD systems on
oth of my Panteras. All in all Iuspect that I have at least a total of
welve trouble free years of useetween the two of them. I even
tressed one system by welding on the car withoutomplete proper
isconnection. That boo-boo was about five years ago and Iave had no
roblems with it. I have had two MSD problems. One: a brand
ew 6-AL box wasead on delivery from Summit. Two: one distributor cap
eemed to developome sort of corrosion schmutz that required replacing the
ap. FWIW, iteems that MSD had more than one problem with that and it was
ome sort ofanufacturing problem, which they did not make good on and
ustomers had toony up for new caps. Sigh. Finally, the two
anteras and their MSD ignition systems haveach done at least four thousand
iles of long distance trips without anyssues over the last several
ears. I have heard the horror stories too,ut mine have served well.
