You are assuming the NASCAR boys use the same product sold to the public.

It seems like the NASCAR guys would use a better product if it was out there.
he price would not be an issue unless it was really high. I'm not sure what
he tradeoffs are, but I assume they are pretty sure that two boxes will not
oth fail.

hipping a dead device shows they have no quality control whatsoever-- the
onsumer is the quality control inspector they don't want to bother with
Japanese cars go 260,000 miles and 15 years with no ignition system
roblems. (personal experience)
Even my 1978 Alfa Romeo went 10 years or so without ign probs. Does that
ean Italian electrics are world class?
I can't figure out why people buy MSD boxes. A classic study in good
arketing.

ear Tony,
I have full MSD systems on both of my Panteras. All in all I
spect that I have at least a total of twelve trouble free years of use
tween the two of them.
I even stressed one system by welding on the car without
mplete proper disconnection. That boo-boo was about five years ago and I
ve had no problems with it.
I have had two MSD problems. One: a brand new 6-AL box was
ad on delivery from Summit. Two: one distributor cap seemed to develop
me sort of corrosion schmutz that required replacing the cap. FWIW, it
ems that MSD had more than one problem with that and it was some sort of
nufacturing problem, which they did not make good on and customers had to
ny up for new caps. Sigh.
Finally, the two Panteras and their MSD ignition systems have
ch done at least four thousand miles of long distance trips without any
sues over the last several years. I have heard the horror stories too,
t mine have served well.
                    Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

as anyone experienced a MSD failure while cruising on the road
Car just backfired and cut off, will not restart, turns over but no
re. I think the MSD box may have been splashed several hours earlier when
r was washed, but it ran fine for 30 min after that. Waiting on tow truck
