[DeTomaso] MSD Box failure? ???????

Keep in mind that you only hear about problems, not people that DON'T have
problems.

If you only read this forum you might think that Panteras in general are
unreliable but people typically only write when they have a problem.

We had an informal survey on the list a few years ago, and 90% of the MSD
failures were in cars that had welding performed on them at some point in
the not-so-distant past. My own car is a case of that - the MSD box wasn't
completely disconnected and 3 months later it failed on me.

That was in 2001 - I've been driving problem-free ever since. Granted, I
carry a spare MSD box in my front trunk in a cardboard box always as an
anti-yuyu talisman and it seems to work so far.

I'm happy with mine, and accept the fact that the problem I had was due to
the fact that I didn't follow directions. It is absolutely critical to
disconnect the box, set it in a separate room or something if you will be
welding on your car.

Over the years, I've seen so many posts here regarding MSD Box Failure that
I don't think I'm ever going to buy one. Anybody feel the up-side is worth
it?

Has anyone experienced a MSD failure while cruising on the road
? Car just backfired and cut off, will not restart, turns over but no
fire. I think the MSD box may have been splashed several hours earlier when
car was washed, but it ran fine for 30 min after that. Waiting on tow truck
now. Michael Shortt
