I just got off the phone with Crane - the part number is 52971-1 (see: http://cranecams.com/index.php?show=browseParts&lvl=3&prt=2144)
They have back ordered for about a month, but have just come in.

I got the same "problem" Dan!
My bronce gear is wearing down against the Comp Cams steel roller cam.
Called Comp Cams Tech but they say I can`t use a steel gear anyway against
their camshaft.
Dry sump is the option, the expencive option.

Emne: [DeTomaso] 351C steel distributor gear needed
All,
Anyone out there hoarding a steel (not iron or bronze) distributor gear
that is compatible with a steel (8620 or 1010) cam core for a 351C?
Mike Drew's engine is sitting on the dyno and needs a distributor gear.
Several vendors say they have them until you actually order one and a
week later you find out they are out of stock. Crane lists them on
their website but they are on back order with no idea of when they will
ship. I tried:
Crane - not in stock (Summit shows an estimated ship date of 5/21/10
though)
MSD - doesn't make them
Mallory - has steel gears but they are for iron cores, not steel cores
Accel - uses the Mallory steel gear but doesn't understand the Mallory
gear isn't for steel cams
Performance Distributor - can't get them (was sourcing them from Ford)
Ford Motorsport - no longer carries them (was getting them from Crane)
Tritec Motorsports - tooling up for a carbon poly gear but won't have them
until the end of the year
Oregon Cams - no longer available (must have been getting them from Crane)
Help!
Dan Jones
