Probably just an engineer wondering "hmm, I wonder if . . . .".  I've worked
with too many engineering types.  It's the "I wonder if this has ever been
done before" syndrome, which overrides the "should I" or "is it
practical/economical" to do this?

I was wondering the same thing. The cost of the correct manifold is about
600-900 bucks depending on source, from my research..do you think it was in
attempt to save money? would have thought the labor to do this would have
been extensive. maybe they just wanted that..sideways look. funny I didn't
notice it at first.

 

btw, if anyone has a Cleveland IDF format manifold ( yes they make one of
those too) I would be interested in purchasing. I have an IDF format 302
manifold that is brand new I would be happy to trade. They cost about the
same on the open market, or at least they do from the sources I've found,
but the cleveland manifold is out of stock at the moment from the sources
checked.
