[DeTomaso] The Most Unusual 351c Weber Maniold

Quite a few V-12 Ferraris & other exotics were built with Webers turned
crosswise to the crankshaft, but those '60s engines had a fairly narrow space
between the cam covers, more like a 302 Ford, and had port spacing closer
together than the Weber bore spacings. So it actually fit the carbs and its
linkage better. On the much wider Cleveland with further-apart port spacing,
and with existing longitudinal intakes & linkage available, there's no
performance advantage- just for appearance.

The ease of linkage hookup with crosswise carbs should also be factored
against having to create everything from scratch for this one-off setup. Maybe,
on an all-aluniimum engine, the heat expansion factor would make coupling
the two banks of carbs together easier, too. But all-aluminum V-8s remain
pretty rare in Panteras, and EFI is immune to this, plus it's easier to adapt &
tune than the old Webers. My 2¢ J DeRyke
