[DeTomaso] Shock length question

I mean now that they have the measurements they need they should be able to tell you which of their shocks would be best for you.

I don't have any data on the 6-series shocks, so I will address the 7 series

I think your measurement of 14" rules out the 754 because that is the maximum length for that shock.

The 755 and 758HP are so close in range that there must be some other difference between them. (755= 11.5 to 15.4, 758HP=11.7 to 15.5")

But one of those is going to be what you want.

My notes from 2005 say Aldan told me at that time they plan on a loaded length of 13.5-14.5".

Assuming the first digit designates the adjustability and the second two the length, it sounds to me like you need either the 655 or 658 (I don't know what the HP suffix designates)

If you go with a softer spring (350-400 front, 500-550 rear) the car will sit a little lower than if you go with stiffer springs, but you should be able to adjust that amount of ride height difference with the spring perch.

All this uncertainty is why I decided to just leave my car well enough alone for now and deal with this stuff if I decided I was really unhappy with the ride and ride height. That was 5 years ago..

Given the news about Aldans leaking, you might just want to get a set of non-Aldans from one of the vendors-- you could ask the vendors what spring rates they use so you don't get a rock-hard ride and the members of this forum what they have and if they like it. I don't recall anyone ever posting that they don't like what they bought, however, so the "if they like it" question might not tell you much.

The spring rate issue has other ramifications, I presume you know. Roll stiffness has an effect on handling balance, and putting stiffer springs on one end has the same effect as installing a stiffer roll bar on that end. Tire sizes also affect balance-- wider tires make that end stick more. All three of these variables have to be considered if you really want to do it right. I suspect there are a number of Panteras out there that are dog's breakfasts in the handling department-- one can't just pick things based on what looks good or sounds "extreme."

I would let the guys at Aldan decide.
hey do this all day every day and should know which is the best choice for you.

uys,
rst-thanks for all the post responses-Per your suggestion, I measured my front
ock shocks. My stock front shocks are 14" from center of mounting bolts. Car
vel . Springs are 8.25 in length with car weight. Thats the spring only not
e holder. Now-with this information, can you recommend what Aldan shock
uld be best for mild driving not wild? I dont want height of car to change.
755 or 658HP or 655HP
