I think your right....On the AMX-3 (midengine) we'll never know now unless someone put one on the road at speed. At least the front end AMX's were plenty fast.

The magazine write ups at the time said they stopped at 100mph because 
it was light on the front wheels. Perhaps the spoilers were all they 
needed to get the air out of the front.
