[DeTomaso] radiator fan connection

Fluidyne radiators come with much better, pipe-threaded non-leaking fan 
thermostats than stock. Stockers will not work with a Fluidyne. Did you mean 
you had the stock thermostat wiring? The stock wiring had no diodes, only a 
pair of relays in the lines, so someone has likely messed with the wiring. 
Good luck sorting that out with a VOM. If the stock fan relays are still in 
there and work, turn them upside-down on their mount studs so the electrical 
connections less conveniently mount from the bottom. In the stock position, 
there's a small ledge around the relay's cover/base joint that collects water- 
which leaks inside and rusts, eventually destroying the relays. They can be 
disassembled & cleaned out to extend their life & save a few bucks.
You say you have A 16" fan; one fan isn't enough unless you also have the 
stock front-mount fans. And since the radiator core is only 16" thick, its 
gonna be difficult to mount. Most of us throw away the stock fans, motors and 
their mounts and use dual 14" sucker fans in a shroud behind the rad. 
Flexilite makes one that fits perfectly. For maintenence convenience, tilt the rad 
forward using 4" long strap-mounts to the top bolts and std. rubber 
bushings underneath. Once mounted & wired, the sheet metal top cover for the 
radiator can be cut to fit the new smaller opening, or a simple fabricaed cover 
can   be made of sheet metal.
Do NOT use tie-wraps thru the core to mount anything, even if the rad came 
with them. They are much tougher than alunimum core tubes, and vibration 
will cause them to saw thru, causing unrepairable water leaks. Good luck, Sue &
