This is not a dumb idea- it's actually been done. In the '70s prior to 
using aluminum sheet frames, Yamaha built some GP motorcycles with thin steel 
tube frames that were pressurized to some value thru a schrader-valve, to 
stiffen them. Probably didn't use helium, but the idea is there. FWIW- J DeRyke
