I think you should see some of the powdercoated wheels yourself before having that done. Powdercoating is plastic and the "silver" I have seen is really just light grey without any metallic appearance at all. Also, as Michael wrote, it seems to me that it chips off more easily than paint.
I think silver with clearcoat is just as durable and looks MUCH better.

nyone powder coated any of the vendor Campy clones?
Well you wouldn't have the outgassing issues like you do with magnesium. My
xperience with powdercoating
on items like wheels and control arms is that it's tougher than paint in some
ays but weaker in others. Powdercoating
is resistant to staining and chemicals but it seems it can take a hit as
ell...more brittle it seems when smacked with
a piece of gravel. I was surprised at the hits the rear wheels can take from
tuff coming up off the fronts. Probably wouldn't matter on a normally driven
ar but there was some loose gravel problem on the RoadRunner ORR and a bunch
of people had stone chips well up into the rim of the wheel near the center. I
aped up the nose and rocker panels and didn't have any chips...except on the
ear wheels and lower control arms!
If I sell the 10 spoke Campys for some larger diameter clones I'll probably
aint them first with a tough clearcoat.
Just my experience.
