Tony, FWIW, I have done about everything possible to a 351C cooling system
over the years, and aside from theories and speculation on efficiency, the
only thing that actually lowered water temps while on the road in our car was
using a large-tube aluminum radiator. And on a friend's Gt-5, the complete
removal of the thermostat drastically lowered his road temps - to below 150
degrees F. while running an open track event in the summer desert! Putting a
proper 351C thermostat back in abruptly raised the identical engine temps
to 190-200 degrees with zero other changes. This car had the stock brass GT-5
radiator in place.
So you're on the right track with trying to increase circulation of water,
but IMHO the two main obstructions are the radiator and the thermostat. All
the others are details- including enlarging the gasket holes. Good luck- J
