[DeTomaso] radar and laser detector

I have had a V-1 for about 10 years now, which I move from vehicle to
vehicle using a windshield mount and remote display. I have never gotten
ticketed or even stopped with the V-1 operating, in spite of lots of really
tricky speed traps. The directional antenna/display and counters (arrows
point to the emission source and a counter tells how many) are exceptional -
you know exactly how many 'bogies' there are and where they are, front, rear
or side.

The V-1 is a little larger physically than some of the newer competitors,
but the extra performance to me is spectacularly worth it. The V-1 does
generate false laser alarms, almost always from LED brake lights from the
vehicle directly ahead in stop-and-go traffic. I suspect that laser
detectors in general have the same problem as more and more cars are going
to LED tail and brake lights whose emissions fall within the same frequency
range as laser.

It's time for a new radar detector. I'm primarily looking at
Valentine One versus the
Escort Redline (dual antenna model) and the Escort Passport 9500ix
(GPS enabled). Escort
will knock off $80 with a trade in of the old detector and toss in
some accessories (single
suction mount and combo smart cord) for a price of $419. Valentine
One is $399 so there's
not much difference in price. I'll need to use it 6 different cars so
I'll be buying several
direct wire kits. So is the valentine One still top of the heap? My
old Passport gave good
detection range but was plagued by false laser alarms.
