Dear Boyd,
Correction needed on one of your points. The Gum Ball does indeed support
a cause. As I was at the departure point last year at the Santa Monica
Pier, I had gathered their information and literature. Gumball is
officially partnered with "Wounded Warrior Project," a non-profit organization for
the benefit of severely wounded US service men and women.
Regards,
Laurie
p.s. have a few pictures on my POCA album of the departure from the pier.

Ref. from website: _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumball_3000_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumball_3000The) The
2009 event was a "Coast to Coast' road trip adventure from Los Angeles to
Miami from May 1 - 8th. The event also included a free music concert in
Santa Monica and car displays in Santa Monica, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, Dallas, New
Orleans and Miami. The 2009 Gumball officially partnered with the _Wounded
Warrior Project_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Warrior_Project) , a
non-profit organisation benefiting and raising awareness for the needs of
severely injured United States Service men and women. _Wounded Warrior
Project_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Warrior_Project) representatives
participated in the rally and were present throughout.

re: clip
people. It is not a race there are no prizes or awards and it doesn't
support any charitable cause. It's just a bunch of celebrities and rich
wannabe celebrities demonstrating their ability to spend an obscene amount
of money partying at a string of the worlds most expensive hotels or
private estates (like the Playboy Mansion last year) in their extremely
expensive sports cars ( like the Bugatti Veyron) Admittedly this
description
of the gumball contains many generalizations (for example Bob Levitt is not
a celebrity wannabe and he drove his Pantera which is not an extremely
expensive sports car) in fact that's what made Bob's participation so cool.
He is a regular guy driving a 40 year old quasi exotic and he fit right in
with the crowd of automobiles many of which had a cost of $1,000,000 plus.
The icing on the cake so to speak was that Bob was the first participant to
cross the finish line in Miami. So despite the fact that it was not
officially a race. To drive from Los Angeles to Miami in a week in a group
of cars that included the most expensive and purportedly fastest production
car in the world and to not only complete the 3000 mile trip but to be
first across the finish line was a proud moment for Pantera owners around
the globe!

Boyd
