Yup that was me who spun!About 20 seconds before the end to.
So here are the excuses,
My tire pressure was way to high(did not expect to get on the track,no time to drop the tire pressure, let alone go to the restroom!)
I am the king of apexing too early.(around 30 to 40 percent of the time)
I was about to lap Bob(Bob Lucas not Bob Benson, but wait a few more track days, then we will see,Ha Ha)Got the red mist effect, and pushed it.
The wind was from the west.
The Zeroes dived out from the sun.
So really here is what happened.Four Panteras with passengers drive out to Fernely to look at the track.Only Bob Benson is actually prepared to go on the track. We arrive and the gate is
 closed.
While we sit cooling our heels,Bob and Ron wander off after a guy they see in the distance working on something. They come back 5 minutes later with two guys and everybody has expressionless faces, and i am thinking we are in trouble for being on the property when they are not open. Then Bob makes a rotating motion with his hand and they all smile and unlock the gate!
We drive up to the drivers meeting room and the track worker has us sign waivers, then he disappears.I see the portable restroom and decide to use it.I get halfway to it when the track worker comes driving up in a pick up truck and says come on i will show you how the long course is set up since it is different than the short course you used last year. Then one minute later we are on the road course.A total elapsed time of 5 minutes between locked gate to on the race track!
So on the last lap(did not know it was
the last one at the time) i was talking to my passenger and commented how the tires are getting slippery and maybe we should go into the pits and drop the pressure. Then i see Bob two turns ahead of us and i am gaining quickly.
Remember the first three excuses i wrote at the beginning?Too high a tire pressure, early apex, the red mist? That is a really bad combination!
So i throttle it up a little bit, take the next turn(a left, and i am much more confidant on rights for some reason, maybe because i am willing to use the gas pedal to plant the tires better on rights?)too early and the tail gets a little loose about 75% of the way thru the turn.Thats when i made the biggest mistake.I let up on the gas a little bit.WRONG move!It was like it was in slow motion. The car spun 180 degrees and i was going backwards!
I thought Brent was right behind me,so i manuvered(backwards!) the car out of
the way and parked expecting Brent to flash past.It took awhile(hey Brent hows that 570 hp motor working out for you?).I should not talk as at least he kept his car on the course pointed the right direction. Then hoped on the gas finished up and pulled into the pits.
While we were all standing there talking and being exited about the fun we just had,one of the track workers commented he heard somebody get loose and i had to raise my hand.we all laughed at my excuses and left.
Bottom line,it was my fault that i spun, but lucky for me and everyone else no harm came from it.
Hands down it was the highlight of the Fun Rally for me,and i will be on the track next year, with the CORRECT tire pressure!
