Hi all,

In September of last year I brought my car in for what was to be a quick
respray to fix some annoying defects that had bothered me for some time.

The quick respray, like most things DeTomaso, quickly spiraled far beyond
time and budget. But I feel a lot better knowing that the cancerous parts
were identified early, allowing them to be fixed before they became more
serious. They were serious enough as-is!

Anyway, today the last part (the exterior mirrors) was installed around 4pm.
What a coincidence - I just happened to be in the area at 5pm! (the car is 8
hours from my home..)

So I stopped by to see it. It really turned out very well - I'm quite happy.
The hardest part was matching the factory original pearl white paint. The
DeTomaso factory was unable to help, Campana was unable to help other than
to tell me the manufacturer, so I turned to the manufacturer to try to
reproduce the color. I brought them my delta wing and let them experiment to
try to recreate the original. It's lacking just a shade of pink-purple in
the pearl recipe they developed, but it is pretty darn close.

Before I knew that my paint budget was going to be completely blown out of
the water, I commisioned new wood veneer panels for the doors, with the
DeTomaso inlays, and a new veneer center behind the ashtray area. Boy they
turned out well, but I still have to install them. The car is here, and the
door panels are in my garage at home.

I had new decals for the rocker panels made up before having the car
painted. I really think the 5-S cars look better with those decals, so they
will be installed over the next couple weeks.

Exactly one month to the day tomorrow we head off for Le Mans Classic and
several thousand kilometers, so the timing is really pretty good. I would
have liked to have had some more time to debug - the pulled the engine,
installed a new clutch, flywheel, pulled the suspension and installed all
new bushings, etc. But the hard part is done, and next week it will be back
in my garage.

Mike Drew will be happy to know that I had the exhausts cut apart are they
are now level! ;-)
