The good news is that I'm pretty sure I got the distributor back in with the rotor near identical to where I marked it. (Thanks, Jack!)

She fired up right away and, after she warmed up a bit, I was able to adjust the idle to its former beautiful self (idling around 800rpm). I locked down the dist bolt and took her for a drive. I think the timing is a bit retarded (similar to the owner) and the idle seemed to slip a bit (down to the 400-500 rpm range) so I will advance it a bit more once the engine cools down ...

She drove pretty good into second gear, but I know the timing's a bit off. Just glad to hear her fire up again, though. I'm less panic'd!
