[DeTomaso] Matching numbers - dataplate mounted in the front trunk

FWIW, my car no longer has the holes for the dataplate in the front trunk,
because when it was restored, the holes were filled (even though it was then
covered with carpet). Do you know for a fact the same thing didn't happen
to your car?

>>>My car has never been restored before. It was neglected and abused but
never got the common "Hall" parts treatment or other modifications, so it
was pretty original, just very ugly and beat up for a car with only two
owners and 25K on it. I have spoken to the original owner and the second
one. I am the third. Others have protested in the past that they also have
original owner 1972 cars that are original owners and didn't have this plate
in the front trunk.

Anything is possible, I guess. Maybe only a few didn't get it, but I don't
think this plate was applied by the factory in all pre- 73 cars. Perhaps the
vendors have sold a lot of them to people who thought they should have had
them?

My own April 72 pre-L has no dataplate mounted in the front trunk and it
appears it never did. It also has no holes - for rivets or screws to
which
said dataplate would have been attached. Other owners have reported no
tag
was ever installed in thier 1972 Panteras. I don't think it can be
assumed
as certain that all 1972 cars produced had this feature? More research
is in
    order.

  >>>Indeed. Earlier cars had them, and my July '72 car has one as well.
Do you know specifically why your car doesn't have one?

    >My car does have the plate with the matching engine number on it in the
    engine compartment, and it matches.

  >>>I suspect my car may have had one there at one time too, but my inner
wheelhouse was replaced at some point in the car's life and it went missing.
