Hi Boyd,

POCA chapters, like any social group, change over time with the mix of
people. The level of activity and the types of activities vary with the
people that are in the chapter at the time. Some chapters like racing,
some like wine tasting, and some like shows. Some are quiet, and some
are more active. The Long Island chapter has been quiet for the time
that I have been around. It is too bad in that there are a number of
Panteras on Long Island and in surrounding areas. As I recall from my
air traffic control days on LI, it was a good area for some drives.

The lifeblood of the chapter is people willing to step up and organize
events. The fact that you are enthusiastic is great. The best thing you
can do to revitalize the LI chapter is to set up an event, invite people
from the LI chapter and from surrounding areas such as the Jersey and
EPA chapters. It need not be fancy. You could meet somewhere, go for a
drive, and have lunch or dinner at the destination. (Having a nice meal
at the destination is a good way to encourage spouses to join the
event.) You may only get two or three cars in the first event, but when
people have fun with their cars in a group setting, they tend to come
back and bring more people with them.

POCA certainly supports anybody who is passionate about supporting the
community. If you would like to be president or events coordinator of
the LI chapter, let's chat with Cliff, Bob, and others in the area. I
am sure that we can come up with a mutually agreeable plan to move
forward. Let's talk this weekend. I'll contact you off-line.

Mark

I am not trying to stir the pot but I have some questions concerning
the
Long Island chapter of Poca. I wrote to the e-mail address listed as
the
contact e-mail for the Long Island Poca chapter several times in the
almost
three years since I bought my Pantera. I have never received a reply to
any
of my inquiries. In that same three year period there has never been
any
meeting , event, or tech session ( or any other pantera related session
listed) During this time I actually wrote to the POCA national board and
made inquiries about what it would necessitate to resurrect the Long
Island
Pantera chapter.. I am not trying to rock the boat and I am friends with
Bob
Levitt and I like him. He is a real Pantera enthusiast. It is my belief
that POCA is a club run under parliamentary procedure and as such
changes
to the chapter , it's officers and other important issues are supposed
to
be settled by election not appointment by the president. Someone correct
me
if I am wrong but that's what seperates us from private and for profit
organizations. I am interested in participating in a long Island based
POCA
chapter. I have gone so far as to form a vintage/ classic car club that
is
based in Port Chester and has been meeting for four months. One of our
members has a custom car / Motorcycle shop and has been a mechanic for
over
30 years. He allows us to use his shop for our meetings and also allows
members ti use his facilities to work on our cars.. I am not opposed
to
Robert Levitt becoming the president of the Long Island POCA chapter
"*If
and when he is duly nominated and elected through the due process
established in the POCA by laws" Where can one find a copy of our by
laws
and what body of the POCA hierarchy oversees adhearencne to the by laws
by
the the local chapters?
I would like to propose a motion that the national POCA chapter review
the
minutes of "Team Pantera of Long Island " chapter of Poca and see what
has
been going on ( officially ) and an accounting of the disbursement of
the
dues collected by the national chapter and distributed to the Long
Island
chapter and If and how they have been spent.
It appears to me that the Long Island Chapter of POCA "Team Pantera of
Long
Island" has been mismanaged ( if you can call it that ). As I said
earlier.
Besides not having my inquiries answered I have not seen a single event
listed in the POCA national calender of events or the "Team Pantera of
Long
Island" calender of events in the last two and 1l2 years and there are
none
listed in the foreseeable future. I am not throwing stones at Chris *
Zsevic
( the listed president of Team Pantera of Long Island) but for some
reason
he has apparently been unable to get the Long Island Chapter running as
a
Viable club. He has expressed some signs of attempting to revitalize the
club but I personally don't think a person who has done nothing with the
chapter over several years as the president should be in a position to
arbitrarily appoint a new President of the chapter. With the
participation
and support of the national Board we should gather all the members
interested in reestablishing the long Island chapter and hold a meeting
to
establish a meeting scheduled and misson statement. Then we should hold
elections so that all interested parties can participate in the election
process. If Cliff wants to continue to participate in "Team Pantera of
Long
Island "as a member he should be welcome like any other person, but if
he
wants to hold a position as an officer he should be duly nominated and
elected by the current members. These are my personal beliefs and every
member is entitled to his or her own opinion. I encourage those with
an
interest in joining " Team Pantera of Long Island" to let their opinions
be
known and participate in the process of reestablishing this chapter.
