[DeTomaso] Welding question? Stainless with MIG

Steve,

You may want to ask the welder if he back-purges the tubes with an inert gas or used a flux (e.g., SolarFlux type B) when he welds stainless.  Based on some reading and the Burns Stainless catalog, the welds are a lot stonger if you prevent oxidation on the back side.  I have run into some people who just return blank stares when I asked about this, so I guess it is not a universal practice.

Hopefully VERY SOONLY..... I will be needing to fit my new mufflers to a set of
new headers....

I ordered the mufflers with the inlet pipes unwelded, so that I could trim and
weld accordingly.....

My question is this.....  Can I use my MIG welder to safely tack the pipes where
they need to be????      I would then drop them back out and take them down to
the welder for proper stainless finishing......

Can anyone chime in on what sorts of issues may arise??

Thanks!
Steve
