[DeTomaso] FW: Line to clutch slave.

Dave,

I'm confused when you say the female end of the line fits directly to the slave.  My slave has a female passage that a male/male fitting screws into, and an AN4 line would attached to the exposed end of the fitting.

My case is -
The new SS line fits directly to the slave, no adapter, no problem.

It has the same female fitting at the other end - which does not fit to the hard line under the car.
The hard line also terminates in a female fitting, so I need the male - male adapter there.
I also think the adapter needs 2 different threads.
The speculation was M12x1 to AN-4 but if I'd like to confirm that before paying a courier.

The fitting connects the new braided line which replaces the old red tubing to the slave cyliner. The old red tubing threaded into the slave cylinder without the fitting. The new braided line and new slave required the adapter fitting.

Is this for the slave end or the hard line end of the flexible line?

When this happened SO Bill turned me on to a vendor that had that same part
for $4.50. He knew the correct size. I just wrote to him to see if he
remembers where he sent me and if he remembers the specs of the fitting. My
experience was not with Wilkinson although Steve Wilkinson did sell me two
clutch master cylinders that were no good. He still claims that he is the
only vendor selling parts from the Detomaso factory , even though they have
been out of business for several years. The current clutch master cylinders
are not being made to the correct specs. After the second one still didn't
work he suggested I use the inner parts from my old original master cylinder
(which is ridiculous) I think the new parts are being made in China. It's
just a guess but based on the fit , finish and failure to meet the factory
specs smells like China to me.

 Boyd,

I agree with you. After I bought the flex line and the new slave cylinder
from Wilkinson you would think he would include the fitting. I got the story
that the slave cylinder I took off should have had the fitting on it. At the
time I trusted him but from what I am reading now it appears we cannot trust
any vendor. Sorry, I cannot include Hall in that, Tara has always been very
honest with me.

When I bought my braided hose from Wilkinson the fitting came with the
      hose.

It was the wrong fitting so I bought one at the local hardware store for
under $1.00. When I told Steve he sent me out one for free with no
      shipping

charges.

I was pissed off at what I perceived as being gaffed. What made it
        worse

was
the fact that the vendor in my case knew what I was doing and must have
known that I needed this part to complete the upgrade to a stainless
braided
line from the red plastic line. He neglected to tell me I would need
another part (other then what I thought was the complete conversion )
        To

ad
insult to injury I had to pay an additional $14.00 for shipping in
addition
to the outrageous overcharge for the part and the shipping charges I
        paid

to
have the Braided line sent. This A&N fitting could have been thrown in
        the

box and it wouldn't have changed the shipping charges one cent! Now
anytime
I buy hardware (nuts , bolts or any part that is not a proprietary
        Pantera

part) Ishop at conventionalhardware parts suppliers. The problem is
        that

most vendors will not supply the information neccesary to obtain the
        parts

(
like diameter ,length, thread count) Just like they won't discuss the
        size

of the wheels they sell. When you ask what the offset is they just say
"Don't worry about it,they will fit!" I really motivates me to go out
        of

my
way to find alternative sources. We should really make an effort to
        create

a
data base of the various sizes and specs of the non proprietary Pantera
parts and alternative sources to purchase them from. I expect the
        vendors

to make a fair profit for stocking parts and their years of accumulated
kowledge, but ten times the cost is out of line !

Looks like it might be this one from the kstbrakehose site Ken.
KFAA-05

7/16 " x 20NF

M12 x 1.0

It would go into the joint in the slave line beside the oilpan.
The end u p at the slave is fine.

Dave,

This looks like the adapter on my slave, from the Wilkinson
on-line catalog:

                http://www.panterapartsusa.com/cgi-bin/detail.cgi?prod_id=05014A

It looks like this is the stock part, is it missing on your car?

Looks like a bunch of this stuff is here:

Ken
The line fits directly onto the slave. That makes me think that
it's an M12 1.0 inverted flare female at each end.
So your adapter must be a M12 1.0 x 7/16 - 20 nipple
I'll try asking Tara if they have such a thing.

Dave,

It's always possible that parts have been changed on a 40
year old car, BUT, this is what I found. If anyone with their
car apart can verify what I found and described below, I will
                  put

together a PDF doc with all the details.

My clutch slave and MC have an M12 1.0 male threads and seal
to a line (or equivalent fitting) with an inverted fare.

The solid line looks like a double inverted flare at both
ends and at the MC end has a male M12 1.0 fitting to screw into
the MC body and at the slave end has a female *7/16 20 *fitting
to mate to the flexible line.

I don't have a flexible hose handy, but a male/male adapter
is screwed into the M12 1.0 thread in the slave and has a 7/16
                  20

thread male end for the flexible hose to screw onto (I guess
                  they

used an off the shelf flexible hose with 7/16 20 threads on
                  each

end?)

If you know what the slave end of your flexible hose is you
should be able to just order a fitting that mates it to the M12
1.0 threads and a concave face to seal to the slave body. If
                  the

adapter is on your slave, did you try removing it to see if the
flexible hose fits directly into the slave body?

I think the best solution is to buy a braided stainless hose
with M12 1.0 male thread as the slave end and 7/16 20 threads
                  at

the hard line end, and matching the double inverted flare (i.e.
                  a

45 degree convex face) on the hard line and having a 45 degree
concave face on the other end, to match the solid line and the
slave body.

I recently bought a stainless-steel replacement for the red,
plastic
clutch-slave line, from Hall.
It came with 2 female flare-fittings and one of these fit
fine at the slave.
When I got to the other end I found the car also had a female
fitting.

The line is a nice piece and I'd like to get it installed,
but I'll need
a nipple to connect the 2 female flare fittings.
Can you all help me out with the thread spec for the nipple
and also
what kind of supplier would carry a part like that.

thanks
dave
