I'll second that. I paid $12,500 for my '66 convertible, and it was in
fully-restored, turn-key weekend-drivable condition.

You should be able to find an early Mustang convertible in the $10K range -
easy to wrench on, will retain value, fun to drive.

>The requirement that it retains or grows in value in the 10k range may well
be difficult without a bunch of sweat equity. I have a friend with a Tiger
and he loves it, but he has a lot more than 10k into it, and a ton of elbow
grease. Last November I purchased a 2003 Honda S2000 with 15,000 miles on
it for about $15k. It wasn't a steal. It appears that they are out there
for about that much. It's fun to drive when the rpm's come up and certainly
low maintenance and dependable, but its not going to appreciate. I was
frowning every time I looked at the interest the money was earning in the
bank. Now at least I'm smiling when I get to drive it. Turns out the Mrs.
also smiles when she drives it, which actually has a lot more value than the
pissy amount of interest it was earning in the bank.
