[DeTomaso] Inquiring Minds want to know...............how to tell if it is a Fontana block?

>From the front, there's huge 'HYPO' 6" long x 1" wide cast into the right 
front of the block just below the head. From the sides, all 6 of the core 
plugs for the water jacket are screw-in internal-hex aluminum plugs; mine and 
others are anodized black. From the back, not much of the block is visible 
above a bellhousing; the oil pressure gauge port comes out of the curved part 
of the right-hand side of the block, at a 45 degree angle into a low boss. 
And as you say, it won't be magnetic- unless someone sprayed it with steel 
paint- a trick used years ago in certain classes of racing when aluminum 
blocks were prohibited. Good luck- J DeRyke
