I have had my '73 since 1989 but only had the AC working shortly after I bought it. Seemed to me there wasn't much fun in driving with the windows up, the blower fan on, and the AC compressor growling behind me -- I could hardly hear the exhaust.
But I want to get it working again so I can drive the car in the middle of the day during summer. I know most people switch to the rotary compressor and use 134 (?) instead of R-12. Does that require a new AC radiator, fittings, or do you just put in 134 and expect it to leak a lot?
Will an otherwise stock system keep you cool on a 95 degree day?
I have also read allusions to forward-mounted AC radiators. Does that make a big difference in effectiveness? Approximate cost?
Thanks,
Jim Oddie
