[DeTomaso] Need valve cover spacers for stud girdles?

It appears that I need to use about 1 inch valve cover spacers to make generic finned aluminum valve covers fit over stud girdles.  The breather inserted into the valve cover appears to be the long pole in the tent, and it looks like there is no way to leave the baffle in the valve cover under the breather?
 
Does this seem right?
 
Any recommendations for spacers? (I know I could buy bigger valve covers, but I like the polished finned valve covers.)
