The Fun Rally Committee met last week to start solidifying plans for the
POCA Fun Rally in Reno, which will be held June 2-6, 2010. I won't let
the cat out of the bag, but I will say that they are lining up a lot of
fun events for the go fast, go shiny, and go party folks. Some events
are repeating from last year, and new ones are being added. There is a
lot to do in and around Reno, so we should have a good supply of events
for years to come.

This year's event happens to fall on the weekend after Memorial Day,
which brings up an interesting twist on the schedule. Many people on
the west coast depart home on Tuesday to reach the Fun Rally, which
starts on Wednesday. If people take off work for those three or four
days, they might as well take off the whole week. That gives people as
many as nine consecutive days to play. I am hoping that a significant
number of people will arrive on the weekend before the Fun Rally
officially starts, which will give them time to explore the area and
form some ad hoc outings with other early arrivers.

One of the things I want to do before the Fun Rally starts is to ride up
through the mountains on an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle AKA "quad"). There
are several companies in the Reno area that will pick up people at their
hotel, drive them up into the surrounding mountains, outfit them with an
ATV, helmet, and gloves then guide the group along scenic trails. There
are several different tour packages to suit people's riding skill level
and interests. The costs are typically $100 to $200 per person for a
2-4 hour trip over 20-30 miles of trail.

Here are some of the companies:

If you are interesting in going, let me know. There is no minimum
number of people, but we could probably negotiate a discount if we get a
good-sized group together.
