First, Wilkinson just informed me that stainless-steel analogues of the
original GTS exhaust are (or soon will be) available. Second, there are larger
diameter resonator tips available from a variety of sources, for those who
want to experiment. Weld them on and check the tone, remembering that from
inside the car, even the most raucous exhausts are not objectionably loud and
around town, one can use one higher tranny gear for a better public image.
Sadly, muffler design (or redesign) is not something one often gets lucky
with on the first try. Remember, the mufflers are trying to quiet 350-450 bhp
from enclosures the size of kid's lunchboxes. A pair of professionally
designed Magneflows (which dyno-tested better than modified Ansas), maybe with
added resonater tips will likely be better in terms of sound plus performance
than anything a home-brewer can cobble out of 40-year-old stock Ansas. Good
luck- J DeRyke
