He probably won't break the glass-depending on how he does the removal. But 
if there's no sign of trouble and (most importantly) it doesn't leak now, I 
wouldn't screw with it. A new gasket is currently around $500 if it becomes 
damaged, and the glass is around $650-$900. Most new gaskets will leak when 
first installed on OEM-sized windshield glass unless the new part is 
thoroughly sealed to the body with windshield-RTV, which is different than regular 
hardware-store RTV. There are oversized windshields now available that fit 
tighter and don't leak in the usual manner.
Two advantages to pulling it: you get to see If there's pits in the cowl 
depression where the gasket rests (which must be welded or brazed up), and if 
your OEM glass is untinted or scratched by 38 years of wipers going 
back/forth, you can change it for a slightly cooler interior or a clearer view. Good
