Good job Chris. Now we just have find out if it was Chris Papendorf that
dripped on them to get a Pantera in the fold.

Subject: [DeTomaso] Things are looking up for Pandora--she's going to star
in a video game!

After a rather colorful three years of ownership, Pandora (#3846, 1972
pre-L)

has a chance for 15 minutes of fame.

A few weeks ago, Mark McWhinney forwarded a message to me from Microsoft
about a need for a Pantera (thank you Mark!) Since Microsoft is very close
to University Place, where I live, Mark thought PNW might be able to help.

I sent an email to the contact at Microsoft, and he let me know they wanted
a Pre-L, non-winged Pantera for their new car-racing video game.

I explained that we had many members, with all different years, colors and
variations of Panteras, so I was sure we could provide what they needed.

He asked me to send him pictures of my Pantera, but I told him mine was a
non-stock color and had a luggage rack. He said the color was unimportant,
and asked if I could remove the rack. I told him the rack was easy--four
bolts, 2 minutes. He then again asked me to send him pictures of my car,
which I did.

He emailed me back in a couple of days and told me the design group had
approved the outside of my car (!) but could I send some interior shots?

I was amazed the outside got approved, especially because I have non-stock
wheels and a small front spoiler. I figured my non-stock steering wheel and
Recaro seats would eliminate my car once they saw them.

Lo and behold, last week I got the message all had been approved and they
wanted to schedule a photo shoot. Today I drove (in the pouring rain, no
less) to Griot's Garage (they let me use one of their big, beautiful and
very clean bays) for the pictures. Having them taken at Griot's had a
number of advantages, not the least of which was that once I arrived,
soaking wet, they let me use all their cool car detailing stuff to get
Pandora looking great before the photographer arrived ("she cleans up nice"
was the comment...) They even helped dry and polish her!

The Microsoft rep told me they have to contact DeTomaso (I said good luck)
or whoever owns the name, for permission to use the car brand in their video
game, and assuming that happens, the car should be available for the game in
5 or 6 months. Of course, all of this is contingent upon everything going
smoothly with all the various committees and such that work on developing
the Microsoft video games. He did say, however, that the research and
development department was really hot on getting a Pantera into the game.

He also asked if I knew anyone with an AMC AMX. I got him in touch with a
friend of mine who has, believe it or not, 17 of them.

Sincerely,

Chris
#3846

PS: I heard him say under his breath, "if only that Pantera had two big,
chrome stacks sticking up out of the engine cover..." JUST KIDDING, MIKE!
