Yep....dats da compromise.....and even those bad boyz break! As Bob Benson likes to say,
"they-all-break-eventually".....

Or you can pay $4-5 grand to a good engine builder and get 500+ RWHP Cleveland stroker for your Pantera.

It will last as long as that SVO cup motor assuming you ain't running endurance or open road races at anything much above 6,000 R's. ;-) The not-so-family secret is the Cleveland block is a delicate flower and needs lots of TLC ;-]>

As Mike Trusty says, "I hate compromises"......so look and sound fast in a Pantera but just keep compression and HP numbers under 600 and the R's bouncing under 7K on acceleration and keep the sustained speeds under 6K and it should last for hundreds of hours of street and race fun.....otherwise do what most of you already do and that is just bench race or get out your checkbook or platinum credit card and get ready to pay $30-35,000.

Don't ask me how I know.

Boyd,

You don't have to destroke to get a 9000 RPM 351. They happen all the time
in Winston cup racing but it'll cost you $30K+. They start out with the
strong siamesed bore 351 SVO block, add a $5000 crank, throw in a set of
$3500 rods, run 13:1 compression, a top of the line $4000 Jessel rocker
system, an expensive dry sump oiling system, etc. Ten years ago I
personally saw the data log of one of these engines where lap after lap
during an hour and a half race it was turning 10,400 RPM at a particular
place on the track. This engine was producing 730 HP using a 3.5" stroke.
Oh what a beautiful sound it made too.

Has anyone heard of a american V8 with a flat crank ( like a Ferrari or
lambo). And I know this may sound crazy to some of you but has anyone heard
of destroking a cleveland to get a higher revving engine ( large bore short
stroke ) 8000 or 9000 rev's like the boss 302 that was used in the Trans Am.
I read that there was a Boss 3302 developed for the Trans am that developed
over 500 hp and turned 9000 rpm. Does any one know anything about specing
out a build from a small block that generates over 500 hp and is good for
8500 to 9500 rpm with out blowing up?. Also for those of you that are
running the Modular engines do you know what kind of RPM's you can get out
of the 4.6 DOHC. I read on the ford racing web sight that the m-601-s302
can be built to an engine with an max out put of 11200 hp and 8500 rpm. They
don't say how to build it.
Boyd
