[DeTomaso] When it hits the fan

Yep - had a neighbor that did that one too. For some reason his Datsun baby-truck was VERY loud, especially after he blew the pipe off.

He also had a crank case explosion once. He had a big Lincoln with a 460. He rebuilt the engine, had a hard time getting it started, and apparently drained a lot of gas past the rings and into the pan. He probably had junk in the needle/seat in his carb.

At any rate, we heard this huge explosion. He was about 500 yards from our house, but it still sounded like a train slammed into a building. We went to see what was going on. His pan and one valve cover was ballooned and blown off. He had that look on his face - you know the look - the one you have AFTER you just melted both eyebrows.

Our F100 straight 6 did the exhaust explosions too, but it sounded like a gay fart. It was on propane. It was a little louder on gasoline, but not by much.

Our white lie (okay bold face black lie) to our dad was when we broke his truck. It was the hottest summer on record in Arkansas - somewhere around 1980-1982. The streets were so hot, the F100 would spin the tires forever. We drove by a friend's house to give him something to remember us by. My brother revved it up and popped the clutch. It bounced 3 times and dropped the driveshaft on the road - broken u-joint. We told my dad he downshifted to "rack the pipes". Yeah right - in a straight 6? He believed us, but he was mucho pissed because we weren't supposed to be on that side of town anyway.

Many more like that.
