[DeTomaso] ZF POLISHING

On the polishing....I did my ZF in the following order.
I took some time and patience to do it in the car...
but it can be done..(see link to my 73 below).

1.) Sand with 400-600 grit emery cloth (emery wheel on drill helps also).
2.) Polish with coarse steel wool and graduate to fine.
3.) Polish with jewels rouge in the tube with cloth wheel.
4.) Finish polish with aluminum polish paste (mothers or blue magic).
5.) Buff with clean cotton towels. 

Don't forget to use gloves, or your hands will be messed up forvever.

Note:
The BEST in-car polished ZF I ever saw was done by Art Stevens !

Does anyone have any hints on how to polish to a mirror finish? ?? I really 
do not want to take the whole unit apart. 
What tools are needed?
What sandpaper to start with ? Emory paper ? Wet Sand ? 
What air tool is best to use ?
