Can't tell; you'd have to open it up and do some checking with a micrometer
on shafts & bearings. Someone in England told me its possible to swap the
entire guts of a 'normal' dash-2 ZF into M-1 cases, just not the individual
parts. RBT does have a few CV-joint stub axles and they may- or may not- be
splined the same on the differential end as the ones for std Hooke-type
u-joints. The side covers that actually mount the inboard stub axles appear
identical on both. So your ZF could be an example of either.
Technically, the M-1 ZF is a dash-2 varient and I've never seen a separate
overhaul manual for this gearbox, although there may be one somewhere. For
all real info on the M-1, I'd rely only on Lloyd Butfoy (and maybe someone
who's actually built one up for a Pantera). With it's reinforced case and
bigger gears & shafts, I wouldn't be surprised to find an M-1 ZF several pounds
heavier than the earlier dash-2's 141 lbs (dry wt, without the Ford-pattern
bellhousing). Cheers- J DeRyke
