Chris,

You don't mention how you disconnect the battery.   However, what you can 
do is rig up a bypass to the battery disconnect, with a 10-amp or 15-amp 
fuse.   That will provide enough power to the system to keep your radio presets, 
alarm etc. functioning, but if somebody tries to start the car, it will 
instantly blow the fuse.
