Agreed. My 69 Olds has a 425 instead of the 350, My 70 Datsun has a 2000 OHC instead of the 1600, my 72 Vega has a small block Chevy instead of the bic lighter it came with, my 73 Pantera has the modular motor and the list goes on. Build it the way you want to and enjoy it. You are sure to disappoint someone regardless but it's not their car so who cares.

Enjoy!!

Subject: Re: [DeTomaso] supercharger questions

The bottom line (in my opinion) is if you go with anything other then a
cleveland you don't have an original Pantera. That includes a windsor. If
you install a Ford modular engine it is more of a change then an LS engine(
as far as design goes (4 valve dohc) vs 2 valve push rod engine).  A pantera
is not really a "Ford" . The idea that by putting  anything but a Ford
engine in it in some way makes it "disloyal" is kind of ridiculous. Based on
efficiency and performance which ever powerplant will give you the best
performance (highest  horsepower, best reliability, lowest weight) would
make the most sense. If you are A Pantera ""Purist" either because you want
to keep your car original then by all means keep it stock including  all the
37 year old faults. If you want to enjoy having a car that you can drive
with out worrying about getting stuck or that you want to personalise to
your own taste you can do what ever floats your boat. Does anyone here think
Gorans car is Less of a car because he has a Hemi in it? The new LS7 or LS9
are considered to be the epitome of the push rod engine. The LS7  puts out
505 hp and weighs 432 lbs the 5.4 SVT DOHC modular engine is rated at 500 hp
and has a shipping weight of over 800 lbs.
I have never put 100,000 miles on any car I have owned , my reference to the
LS7 being rated to last for 100.000 miles was just to compare it to a
stroker that has to be rebuilt every few years. The other indication of the
LS7's efficiency is the 28 mpg. II just think it would be a great power
plant in a Pantera and I  wouldn't be surprised  to see more people going in
this direction in the future.
