[DeTomaso] Shipping from the USA to Europe to sell?

Yes, the fees on top of the purchase price would be 91 kUSD. Just like the fees were said to be appr. 180 kUSD on top of the purchase price for a new Camaro the other day. I'd not call this a socialist tax per se, it's an effect of a country that doesn't have a domestic car industry. Luxury taxes on cars are similarly insane in Norway, Denmark and Finland. Sweden is more relaxed in comparison.

Regarding import costs, VAT and import duties are paid by the person importing the car and registering it in the EU country. Once registered no VAT is paid when a sale is made between private parties (at least where I live). If a dealer does the import and resells it's different. Selling a US registered but un-imported car in Europe is a very different matter price wise. Ask Charlie who had his US registered car shipped from Europe to the US when it was time to sell it. I'd guess that if someone shipped a US car and tried to sell it unregistered in Europe the price in USD would be marginally above the market price in the US. Europe is also not particularly homogeneous import wise so if a car was exported from France to the US you'd not be getting any relief by bringing it in through Germany. I seriously doubt that any relief would be given in any country on a car that was exported 30 years ago from that country anyway. If a car was exported as new it normally means that no local taxes were paid on it at the time of production and export.
