[DeTomaso] Undercoating removal?

I have done removed the undercoat from my engine bay.
 
Best tools for me were:
 
1)  Heat gun and scraper (like many of you have suggested)
 
2)  KEROSENE.  Apply to soften up the remnants and scrub off with a stiff bristle brush.  Also as a final wash.

FWIW,

Don't use an open flame to soften undercoat.

Use an industrial heat gun.

A 1,400 W heat gun will absolutely, safely, melt  undercoat.

Heat the undercoat until it is soft, scrape it off with a putty  knife, 
wire brush if you like, wipe the area with lacquer thinner and you  are ready 
to paint.
