I was in a mortar platoon years ago - and later field artillery.

Brings back memories.

The thing that got me was...

In the old John Wayne movies, the mortar goes off with a "foop".

In real life, it goes off with a "BAAAANGGG!!"

Pretty much like the video.

And yes, it's pretty easy to track the trajectory to the source - although
this raghead was holding the tube with his hands.  Each round would have
gone a different direction and distance.  I think that's how you did the old
60mm mortars, though.  If that's the case, the Americans probably had
line-of-site on him.

The good mortarmen can get occasional 1st round hits w/out any electronic
aids.  It's called charts-and-darts.  You plot your position on a map (grid
coordinate), figure out where you want it to land (based on a forward
observer), do the math, and drop a round in his lap.

Pretty cool video - if it's real.
