All very true statements about Paypal. But remember that they are on the
side of the buyer not the seller.
A friend sold a +$1,000 laptop and a $50 docking station to an Ebay buyer.
Two separate sales. The buyer asked that they ship in the same box. The
buyer then told Paypal that the laptop was not in the box. Paypal yanked the
laptop money out of his account, returning it to the buyer. He has sold over
5,000 items on Ebay and knows what he is doing...
Keep very little money in your Paypal account.
Has anybody gotten a 1099 from Ebay/Paypal?

I'd also say that if there were recurring problems, you would have heard
about it.
There is, however, a more protected way to enjoy the easy check out
benefits of PayPal. When you use PayPal, you don't have to have the funds
taken
directly from your checking account. I use my credit card, under "other
funding choices." That way I have all the recourse that using a credit card
affords me should there be a problem. Much stronger protection than having
the
funds removed from a checking account.

I've probably done about 600-800 transactions with Paypal. They have
never abused or messed-up their access to my bank account.
