As a matter of fact, I have... way back in 1972, I think, when I worked for Garret Farms in Clovis, New Mexico.
They used propane for almost all of their fleet of Ford pickups. A very dry, clean fuel with no lead. Bottom end lasted forever.
We were always pulling the heads off the engines (mostly 360's) and doing valves jobs on them and adding hardened seats to the heads. 

Things have probably changed since then... gee....38 years ago.... Sigh....
