When I lived in Seattle 25 years ago I used to drive the Pantera up to
BC via Blaine all the time. Never had a problem on either side of the
border.....

Mexico is a different story.....5 years ago when when Dick Drenske and I
took the Pantera down to Ensenada Mexico to run in the La
Bufadora Hill Climb and the La Carera road race one of the guys who had a
vintage Porsche Carrera and a 18-wheeler car hauler was forced to turn
around and drive several hundred miles out of his way to get across the
border at a different entry point because TJ customs were being dicks about
his not having title paperwork with him.

The only problems we had the same sunday were with US Customs coming back
into the US.
Customs agent said,

"thats a race car so why does it have license plates on it?'.....

So I said,

'it only looks like a race car ;-) but its a street licensed California DMV
and the car and Decate Beer sponsor decals and numbers come right off the
car..........so now his feelings are hurt and he repeats what he said
earlier and adds,

"Sir pull out of line".....

I'm thinking this could be better as we were going thru a TJ border on a
late sunday morning with thousands of other idiots  backed up for
miles.....I am thinking the inspection area might get get us through
quicker.....Dick gets pissed off at me and says, "why do you always have to
be such a smart ass?".......so we pull into inspection area and I am
reassuring dick everything is going to be okay....and now Dick is NOT
talking to me......I am sure Dick is thinking HE is gonna have to put the
Pantera back together again after they pull the Pantera apart looking for
the 10 kilos of Coke. ;-)

As we pull into inspection area I ask for the guys supervisor.....but now
EVERY CUSTOMS AGENT IN TJ are milling around the Pantera like
locusts......there are supervisors everywhere.....they want to look at the
Pantera.....I see a ranking captain who looks cool and we start BS'ing about
how the hill climb and race went and next thing I know the sea of cars and
trucks part before us......that inspection car show saved us a couple hours
in line......and Drenske gave the original customs agent a one fingered
salute as we headed across the border.

I love the Border Patrol....

A few years ago, I crossed the border into Windsor, Canada in my Pantera for

an Italian car event.  The border guard asked me all the typical
quetions.............Where are you going, how long will you be here, ect.  I

told him that I was going to an event featuring Italian cars and even showed

him the flyer and in the lane next to me there was an old Alfa heading to
the same event that he could plainly see.  Regardless, he told me to pull
off to the side to get further scrutiny.  A customs officer soon came out,
looking all stern and official, and barked "Open up the trunk".  I opened it

up and he  looked in and said "Oh!........You can go".    As I pulled out
the Alfa pulled in!

What were they thinking!
